The rise in violence levels across the world has been a disturbing change for people everywhere. Given the increase in violent media content and the fact that people can get so much pleasure through various devices due to technology and its ever-increasing development, it has become vital to understand the audience and what content to provide to them. This article presents a comprehensive study on media violence and a brief overview of some selected theories of media violence. Before conducting any research, it is vital to understand what violence is. The theories considered in this article are: Social Learning Theory, Social Psychological Theory, Stimulus Transfer Theory, Developmental Theory, and Desensitization Theory. This article attempts to analyze the different views of researchers on the selected hypotheses in this article and examine how these theories apply to our local society.
