Drug surveillance and regulation have a long history that dates back centuries. In ancient civilizations, herbal remedies were used as treatments, often based on empirical evidence and trial and error. The Industrial Revolution brought about the formalization of drug manufacturing, and governments began to enact laws to ensure the safety and quality of medicines.
