Viral latency is a remarkable and intricate phenomenon in which certain viruses establish a dormant state within the host cells, evading the immune system and avoiding replication. This review explores the intriguing mechanisms behind viral latency, shedding light on the factors that contribute to its establishment, maintenance, and reactivation. We delve into the molecular and cellular processes that regulate viral latency, including the role of viral gene expression control, epigenetic modifications, and immune evasion strategies. Furthermore, we discuss the clinical implications of latent viral infections, as they can lead to persistent or recurrent infections, posing challenges in treatment and eradication.
