Functional Modification on Adhesive Bandage Using Natural Herbs

Sumithra M and Amutha R

A Bandage is a standard of biomaterial used on wound to protect from infections and also to cure the wound. An adhesive bandage, also called a sticking plaster (and also known by genericized trademarks Band-aid or Elastoplasts) is a small dressing used for injuries not serious enough to require a full-size bandage. The adhesive bandage protects the cut from friction, bacteria, damage and dirt. In this present study of 50%:50% Bamboo Cotton web was selected for the construction of bandage functional part. In functional part of web was finished with eco-friendly natural leaves of Galinsoga parviflora and Azadirachta indica. For the finished web the antibacterial assessment EN ISO 20645 and anti-allergy assessment of the finished fabric contact allergy test (in house method) was carried out. From the test, it was concluded as 50%:50% Bamboo cotton finished with Galinsoga parviflora and Azadirachta indica has excellent wound curing property when compared to 50%:50% Bamboo cotton finished with Galinsoga parviflora. This study used to prevent the skin allergy, protect from the Bacteria and also to cure the skin diseases

TRIZ Inventive Principle in the Creative Process of Textile Products

da Silva de Santis SH, Franco B and Marcicano CJPP

The work was developed based on the concepts of the theory TRIZ (theory of Inventive Resolution) that was used to assist the creative process of the design of a technological fabric. It was evaluated the application of the concepts of sustainability for the design as an inventive principle. As a result, it was obtained various design alternatives working with the functions and requirements of the fabric.

Lean Manufacturing and Value Engineering, Two Concepts for Sustainable Management

da Silva de Santis SH, Dedini FG, Marcicano JPP and de Santis VC

This project aims to evaluate the lean production concepts in use in the textile industry. The goal is to investigate the management practices that contribute to the development of sustainable production processes. The adjustments necessary to the system development focuses on the management of resources and inputs of production processes to promote the best use of these and still cutting costs, making the company sustainable economy. The purpose, therefore, is to deploy management practices, tools and routines that help in the company's processes. The research will be developed through case study, we intend to analyse the reality of the organization. The data collected through interviews, questionnaires and secondary source (books, articles and magazines) that will be used as the basis of information and provide the necessary clarification for the rationale.

Engineering Fiber Volume Fraction of Natural Fiber Staple - Spun Yarn Reinforced Composite

El Messiry M and EL Deeb R

There is a large demand for high fiber volume fraction natural fiber reinforcement polymer composites. Among many parameters affecting the mechanical properties of a composite, the fiber volume fraction is the most decisive factor. The effect of fiber volume fraction on the physical and tensile properties of aligned natural fiber staple spun yarn composites has been intensively investigated. However, there have been no direct studies on determining the relation between composite fiber volume fraction and the yarn fiber volume fraction for fiber staple-spun yarn composite. With the intention to improve the utilization of most fibers of the yarn cross section in the composite, the variation of the yarn diameter in staple-spun yarn reinforced composite is investigated in this study. The analysis of the yarn diameter indicates that it has a high variability that necessitates an increase in the composite diameter to envelope all the yarn body leading to reduction in its fiber volume fraction. A model for the determination of composite fiber volume fraction was driven, grounded on the analysis of the yarn diameter variability along its length. An equation has also been developed to calculate the diameter of the composite to cover majority of yarn cross section
