Industrial automation's roots trace back to the late 18th century, with the advent of the Industrial Revolution and the mechanization of various manufacturing processes. However, it wasn't until the 20th century that automation truly took off with the development of the relay logic system, which allowed for the control of machines through electrical switches. These machines utilized punched cards to control tool movement and automate machining processes. This innovation played a pivotal role in industries like aerospace and automotive manufacturing.
